MAMARONECK, NY — A popular Mamaroneck park will close at dusk while officials look to solve electrical issues with the lighting at the recreation area.
The Village of Mamaroneck announced that until further notice, Florence Park will be closed daily to the public, from dusk until 7:15 a.m. The closing is necessary for the public’s safety because a number of light poles are experiencing electrical shorts underground. The Village’s Parks Department and Department of Public Works (DPW) are pursuing a contractor to repair the underground wiring for these light poles.
"We apologize for this inconvenience," said Village Manager Jerry Barberio. "But we hope to have these electrical shorts fixed quickly so that our children and families can once again safely enjoy Florence Park during the evening and nighttime hours."
Reflective "Park Closed" signs, metal barricades, snow-fencing and chains will be put up at all entrances to Florence Park, beginning at dusk. For the public’s safety, all are asked to follow these signs and refrain from entering Florence Park during evening and nighttime hours.
Florence Park will be open during the daytime hours, beginning at 7:15 a.m. Students and families who use the park's paths during the day to walk to and from Daniel Warren Elementary School or F.E. Bellows Elementary School will not be affected.
