Gearheads rejoice; there’s a new textile in town. Previously, GORE-TEX announced it will debut its new ‘GORE-TEX Expanded Polyethylene’ in Fall 2022. Now, the GORE-TEX ePE Membrane is even closer to production. The all-new waterproof and breathable material has already secured backing by Patagonia, Arc’teryx and others. It boasts a smaller carbon footprint than competing materials, requires less energy and water to create and produces less carbon overall. On top of that, it’s PFC-free and can bond with other sustainable fabrics like recycled or undyed materials. GORE-TEX describes the new material as long-lasting, fully-windproof, highly breathable and equipped with durable waterproofing. With the material already set to appear on Patagonia’s ski and snowboard shell kits and Arc’Teryx’s Ralle and Coelle jackets, many fans will be able to use the material first-hand sooner than later.

Casey Underwood and Benchmade have teamed up on a new collab for Benchmade’s limited edition Artist Series. The new knives take inspiration from Benchmade’s original Mini Crooked River, a high-quality knife equipped with a 3.4-inch CPM-S30V steel blade. What sets the Artist Series’ releases apart is that each artist (in this case, Underwood) engraves the piece with custom artwork. What’s a bioengineered fragrance? Essentially, instead of extracting natural materials, Aier has developed a system that bioengineers formulas that can mimic the notes in these resources. So, for example, instead of harvesting palo santo, sandalwood and rose, Aier can mimic these scents without ever depleting natural resources. The company will launch its Mini Fragrance Discovery Set for $69 on September 29 at Neiman Marcus, with full-size bottles to follow (retailing for $120 each) later in October.
While Keurig's controversial K Cups grew to quick fame over the last decade or so, they’ve also enflamed countless conversations about the harms of single-use plastics. Now, folks can gather around a new, more sustainable system: The CoffeeB Globe. The machine creates piping hot java from the company’s ‘coffee balls’ – which are produced by tightly pressing finely ground coffee into a sphere. The sphere is then coated with a layer of raw vegetable-based material to ensure peak aroma and freshness. While the release is limited to Switzerland and France, we'll hope to see the machine on U.S. soil soon.
