The Fountain City Amphitheater is getting a new lighted walkway.
Bryan City Council approved a $129,191.95 contract with Rupp Contracting out of Archbold to make a lighted walking pathway that will connect the Imagination Station parking lot with the pedestrian path on the east side of the park and the amphitheater during the council’s meeting on Tuesday at the Don North Municipal Building.
The goal is to have the project done by late September or early October, Bryan Park and Recreation Director Ben Dominique said.
“It’s going to create more access points to the amphitheater for us,” Dominique said after the meeting.
Rupp Contracting, which sent in its bid on Aug. 9, was the lowest bidder for the project.
Most of the project is being paid for through a $125,000 state grant. The 12-foot-wide path will wind from the Jaycee Pavilion to the site of the former Washington Elementary School.
“It’s been a little tricky working with the state of Ohio and understanding how those funds are going to flow, because it’s a new program for us. But I would like to thank Ben and State Representative (Jim) Hoops, State Senator (Rob) McColley for securing that $125,000 for the parks for that project under their annual budget. Very grateful for that,” Bryan Mayor Carrie Schlade said during the meeting.
• Approved the times and date for the “Holler”ween party and the community trick or treat. The party will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the McDonald-Ruff Ice Rink, while trick-or-treating is from 5-6:30 p.m. that same day.
• Approved an ordinance to hire outside counsel, Ryan S. Thompson, Esq., for prosecution and litigation when the Bryan Municipal Prosecutor has a scheduling conflict.
• Approved a resolution to accept a $1,200 donation to the Bryan Fire Department Fire Donations from the Bryan Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2233 for the Safety Cloud transponders, which will improve emergency responder safety on roadways.
The transponders, which will tell drivers when they’re approaching emergency vehicles that have their lights on navigation systems like Google Maps and is actually an annual subscription, will be added to two vehicles, Bryan Fire Chief Doug Pool said.
“Anything we can do to improve traffic safety for emergency response, that’s what we have to do,” Pool said.
• Went into executive session for the reason of acquiring property. No action was taken.
