Chautauqua County is moving forward to make improvements at the Dunkirk airport.
A special meeting was held on Tuesday on Zoom for the legislature to approve a resolution for lighting the runway improvement project.
According to the resolution, the entire project cost is $744,351. The Federal Aviation Administration will pay $669,915, New York State will pay $37,218 and Chautauqua County will pay the remainder $37,218.
Airport Manager Shannon Barnhart said they’re upgrading the medium intensity lights to LED lighting. The project has already been approved locally and bid out. They needed the resolution to accept the FAA grant funds.
Legislator Elisabeth Rankin, R-Jamestown, expressed her support for the project “This grant is vital to the support of safe and effective operations at the airport. I’m in favor of this funding and of this resolution,” she said.
The legislature voted 15-0 in favor of the resolution. Legislators Jamie Gustafson, R-Lakewood, John Penhollow, R-Stockton, Bob Scudder, R-Fredonia and Billy Torres, D-Jamestown were absent.
