More lights have been put up at local sporting grounds as part of the City of Greater Geelong's continued sports infrastructure stimulus program.

Evans Reserve in Norlane is one of seven local venues to receive new lighting under a $2.5 million initiative.

The council says the lighting is welcome news for the Corio Bay Sports Club, allowing training to be held at night in a safe environment.

It is also hoping it will drive soccer participation in Geelong's northern suburbs.

The city says it is a chance for people to return to sport after two years interruptions due to the pandemic.

Other ovals to receive lighting include St Albans Recreation Reserve, Osborne Park and St Leonards Lake Reserve.
